Day 1 - Charleston, SC
Saturday, November 5
After flying into Charleston, SC, Ligonier guests will be met in baggage claim areas and shuttled to our hotel in Charleston.
We will then enjoy a full dinner and first night’s lecture with Ligonier Teaching Fellows.

(Optional) Morning excursion to Ft. Sumpter. Guests must arrive the night prior to participate. Registration information and costs will be forthcoming.
Day 2 - Charleston, SC
Sunday, November 6
After a relaxing breakfast and lecture, we will begin our walking tour in Charleston as we learn about the Southern Presbyterian history of Charleston. Along the way, we will visit several historic churches, including The Circular Congregational Church, which was established in 1681 by English Congregationalists, Scotch and Irish Presbyterians, and French Huguenots of the original Charles Towne settlement. After lunch on own, we will enjoy a horse carriage ride through the historic district of Charleston.
Enjoy free time and dinner on own in Charleston.

Day 3 - Charleston, SC to Savannah, GA
Monday, November 7
After morning breakfast, we will continue our journey to what is today known as Parris Island where we will visit the ruins of Charlesfort and USMC Parris Island Museum. Jean Ribault established a French Huguenot colony that was meant to be an- other place of refuge for French Calvinists. The Huguenot migration to South Carolina is part of a larger diaspora, traditionally known as le Refuge, which stretches from the late 1670s to the early 1710s. We will then head to Savannah, Georgia, where you will see the church where John Wesley and George Whitfield both served as ministers. You have the evening to explore and dine on your own in the culturally rich city of Savannah.

Day 4 - Savannah, GA to St. Augustine, FL
Tuesday, November 8
After breakfast, we will begin our journey to St. Augustine and will explore the Spanish fort, Castillo de San Marcos. Built be- tween 1672-1694, the Castillo de San Marcos to guard the first major city established by the Spanish on the North American continent. We will tour the historic village and will share lunch together. The rest of the day is yours to explore, shop and dine on your own in the eclectic city of St. Augustine.

Day 5 - St. Augustine, FL
Wednesday, November 9
After morning breakfast and lecture, we will visit Fort Caroline, the settlement of the French Huguenots that was established just south of Jacksonville in 1562. During the period known as “the wars of religion” in France between Roman Catholics and French Huguenots, Huguenots founded Fort Caroline at the site of St. John’s bluff in 1564. The established fort was raided by Spanish Catholic Forces, led by Admiral Pedro Menendez, in 1565. The attack resulted in the slaughter of nearly 140 French Calvinists while approximately 60 women and children were spared. We will enjoy dinner and lecture together this evening.

Day 6 - St. Augustine, FL to Orlando, FL
Thursday, November 10
Our morning begins with a quick grab and go breakfast and boarding luxury buses to our historical exploration of the intrepid Huguenots. Our buses will head north and arrive at Matanzas. In 1565, Jean Ribault received word that the Spanish, who considered the French Calvinists heretic intruders, were planning on excising the French Huguenot encampment at Fort Caro- line. Hoping to catch the Spanish off guard, Huguenot leader Jean Ribault set sail with several hundred men to attack the Spanish encampment. After the Huguenots shipwrecked off Cape Canaveral, the survivors came ashore, weaponless, and were captured by the Spanish Catholics.
We will visit the area where the Spanish Catholics led by Menendez killed those who professed the “new religion” of “Luther- ans.” This area is located near the old Spanish fort that is on the spot where the Huguenots were killed was built in the 1742 and guarded the inlet entrance that leads to St. Augustine. After visiting the surroundings of Fort Matanzas, we will board our buses and enjoy a final lunch together before we head to Orlando.

Day 7 - Orlando, FL
Friday, November 11
After a good night’s rest, we will assist our guests with their transfers to their flights out of Orlando International Airport.

To fully participate in this tour, you must be able to walk long distances, have good balance capabilities and be able to walk on uneven terrain. There will also be some climbing involved as well as long periods of standing. Due to the historical nature of some of our destinations, not all facilities will be ADA compliant.

W. Robert Godfrey
Dr. W. Robert Godfrey is Ligonier’s chairman of the board as well as president emeritus and professor emeritus of church history at Westminster Seminary California. He is author of several books, including Saving the Reformation and Learning to Love the Psalms.
Derek Thomas
Dr. Derek W.H. Thomas is senior minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C., and Chancellor’s Professor of Systematic and Pastoral Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary. He is a Ligonier Ministries teaching fellow and author of many books.
